Adventure-Lab

What is the Adventure-Lab?

Jambette is interested in the free-play trend and highly concerned by current findings that suggest that young people are playing outdoors less and less and that their playtime is too structured. Driven by the desire to enhance its mission to help children develop through play, Jambette had the idea to set up a lab to observe the play preferences and habits of children.

The Adventure-Lab is a brand-new, exclusive free-play concept, built in partnership with Patro de Lévis and in cooperation with area experts. This outstanding playground allows kids to experiment and create their own fun universe by using reclaimed materials. A first-ever, outdoor, free-play playground that will allow children to express their creativity and use their imagination and spontaneity, as well as interact with their environment and foster opportunities for adventure.

JAMBETTE KNOWS THAT THE BEST PEOPLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CHILDREN FIND FUN ARE ... CHILDREN!

Adventure-Lab

HOW DOES THE CONCEPT WORK?

The Adventure-Lab is an enclosed space, so it is only possible to see inside by going inside. The fence that encloses it is made up of an ingenious amalgamation of wood panels, steel panels and gabions filled with rocks and reclaimed objects. The enclosed compound option was chosen not only to create intrigue for the children, but also to improve their safety.

INSIDE…

Here, each day, children enter into a world that belongs to them. They invent and build what they want with materials of all kinds. They use various tools and move around palettes, wire spools, boxes and wooden boards. In this space reserved for them, children can collaborate with each other. Thus, they learn the limits of risk while socializing. They learn to become better, to have self-confidence!

WHO IS THIS PLAYGROUND FOR?

The Adventure-Lab is mostly limited to those who attend Patro de Lévis. It is now open to public, from July 9th to August 31st.

WHEN WILL IT OPEN?

The Adventure-Lab is open from tuesday through thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm and satuday from 1 pm to 4 pm.

DEFINITION OF FREE PLAY :

Free play is a return to the concept of freedom and encourages children to use their imagination. In contrast to structured play, free play is a fun period of time that has not been organized by an adult and that does not rely on any form of electronic entertainment. The child leads the game. The child is the instigator, directs the game, comes up with the objectives, defines how it unfolds and decides on the outcome.

That is why only young people will have access to the enclosure for the purposes of this project. No adults other than the Patro de Lévis leaders, who will supervise and observe the children, will be able to access the Adventure-Lab.

STRAIGHT TO THE SOURCE FOR BETTER INNOVATION!

FREE AND PERMISSIVE PLAY MEANS :

  • Spontaneous play;
  • Play without a predictable end;
  • Ordered chaos;
  • A universe where children build themselves;
  • A universe where children are confronted with a certain level of risk beneficial to their development;
  • A challenge involving decoding the situations they face ... situations that are not but appear to be dangerous;
  • A place where children get dirty.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS VISIONARY PROJECT

  • Provide a free-play experience to children in a quality framework;
  • Foster the social development of children, their independence and their self-esteem;
  • Observe children, to better identify and understand their interests in play, to better respond to their needs and preferences;
  • Enhance Jambette’s product creation process by incorporating the data from the Adventure Lab;
  • Enrich the knowledge of the Adventure Lab attendants, to optimize the overall experience.

By observing children, Jambette develops equipment that truly supports their development and by being in contact with them, in this brandnew framework, Patro will develop a new expertise in leading activities. A successful example of a social economy business and a private company working together for the great benefit of children in the Lévis area.

A PROJECT TO PROMOTE UNIQUE EXPERIENCES!
